And coming soon - exterior painting! Contact Curb-It Inc. in Sarasota, FL for all your concrete needs.
.) The concrete curb does not need to be sprayed; however, it can be if you choose. Wait at least four (4) hours and then spray with a fine mist. You must keep it moist, otherwise the sun will dry it out quickly. Do not apply nozzle or thumb pressure to your water hose, it may damage the curb. Repeat the misting as often as needed for the next 24 hours.
.) Keep pets, children and objects away from the curb for at least six hours. It will be "hard" to the touch at this point, however 28 additional days are necessary for a full cure.
.) Sod laying, sprinkler work and landscape work can be started seven days after installation; however, caution must be taken as shovels, picks and wheelbarrows can damage the curb for several days while it is fully curing.
.) If you have a landscape contractor working for you, caution him about protecting the curb from damage. If wheelbarrows are used for hauling rock over the curb, put a mound of dirt over it (6" deep) or build a ramp over the curb to keep the weight from cracking it. Never let a tractor or truck run over the curb.
.) If it begins to rain within 3 hours after we leave the job, we will cover the curb or leave plastic for you to cover it with. Make sure sprinkler systems do not turn on before and after for at least six hours. Irrigation, back wash from pool, condensate line, or rain can damage the curb during the first 24 hours.
.) Efflorescence ( white powder substance ) can appear on occasion and does not look good on curbing. It is generated from water sprinkling systems and can also appear after a rainstorm. The intensity of the efflorescence varies depending upon the type ( hardness ) of water and volume of water that gets on the curb. Check your sprinkler head while the system is on and try to adjust them to minimize the amount of water spraying directly on the curb. If you have just planted sod and are watering frequently, efflorescence may appear more readily. Be patient, wait for your lawn to get established and clean the curb after it dries. A solution of 50/50 vinegar and water with a light brushing will remove the efflorescence. You may have to do this a few times; eventually, the efflorescence should go away.
.) Once in a while curbing with color in it may look "splotchy" for a few days while it is curing. This will go away as it cures and is not to be confused with efflorescence. Concrete is darker in color when first laid and will lighten up as it dries. It may take up to 28 days to cure out. Due to excess moisture and wearing of the lawn it may take longer.
.) If curbing is damaged we will come back and make necessary repairs; however, there is a $200.00 minimum charge for this service.
.) Cracking - Concrete curbing like any other type of concrete can and will crack. We experience very little cracking in our products; however, if it should crack, we can saw cut to make it like a control joint at no charge during the warranty period. A warning however, is important to note: Repairs can be difficult to make in colored concrete. It is impossible to get a perfect color match. Sometimes the "cure is worse than the ill". A hairline crack is much less noticeable than a patch or discoloration in the curbing.
.) When curbing is installed as a retrofit, ( grass already in place ) there will be a small amount of concrete on the ground between the new curb and grass. Every effort is made to remove this, and then rake it out. You may have a few particles on your curb which will wash and wear off.
.) During rainy season, large amounts of rain falls in a short time, sometimes the mulch & fertilizer will leach out a stain on the curb where ever it runs over and settles. You can purchase CLR from Wall-Mart. A solution of 50/50 CRL & water in a spray bottle with a light brushing after allowing solution to set a while, you may have to do this a few times; heavier stains use CLR full strength.
.) Curbs along vehicle traffic areas, such as shell drives parking lots along asphalt and golf cart paths, cannot be guaranteed unless there is a 4" footer under the curb. Curb-It, Inc. cannot be responsible for damage occurring from large trucks such as garbage trucks & dump trucks or any other vehicle that is used for hauling.
.) Your curbing has a five-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. It will be replaced at no charge if the defect is caused by the materials we used or the way it was installed by our workmen.
